After Hurricane Ike hit Galveston Island in 2008, there was little left intact plus there was a major impact on woody plants. A year later, the city agreed to turn dead trees into pelicans, dolphins and musical instruments.
Since then local artists have been transforming a historical part of the island, making elaborate sculptures to adorn many front yards. Nowadays, this tree art takes on a new meaning as a declaration of resilience and a wholeness with nature.
