Brazilian Priest Continues To Invite Stray Dogs To Mass And Thus Find Them New Homes

The Parish of Sant'Ana Gravatá, in Brazil, is not the same as the others. It is common there, during religious ceremonies, to see dogs near the altar. This is thanks to João Paulo Araujo Gomes, 51, a priest who became famous for asking the faithful to adopt abandoned dogs and who are welcomed by him.

In fact, there are many accounts of the work of this true angel, who, among other things, maintains an animal refectory in his church while also tending to care for those who arrive injured.

I was curious to know if appearing on Bored Panda two years ago changed anything in his routine, so he replied:

"When you came to me to tell my story, I thought it was some local newspaper, because until then few people knew about my work with dogs. But I discovered that your Bored Panda article made my story known around the world. I received several invitations for interviews on television, printed newspapers, online magazines and I was also contacted by Netflix, in which I was the only Brazilian to star in one of the four episodes of the second season of the series “ Dogs” that was released last year. This visibility was and is being very important for our project with dogs.
