I knew that October was Breast Cancer Awareness month, especially since narrowly escaping death after being diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer... I didn't know that it was also Pit Bull Awareness month too.
I thought I was going to die. I was so sad and depressed, and even though my cancer treatment came to an end, and I was still alive, I was still sad, anxious, and depressed.
All of a sudden, I felt compelled to adopt a pit bull. I don't know why I didn't really know much about these cute dogs. I found Stella (@IncrediBullStella) and yes, she was our new family pet, but I wasn't prepared for how my life would change when we brought her home.
I had a smile back on my face, I was excited to wake up in the morning, and I quickly transitioned from being depressed and battling cancer to feeling happy.
Since that time, I have made it my mission to share our story, to bring hope and encouragement to those suffering.
We have two messages for cancer survivors, first, of course, is to encourage all women to perform regular self-exams, no one knows your body better than you. Second, is to help pit bulls be viewed in a more positive light for all the love and joy they can bring.
On October 14th, I am going on a hunger strike to help reach as many people as possible.
