40 Safety Tips For Women Living Alone That Might Save Your Life
40 Safety Tips For Women Living Alone That Might Save Your Life

As a woman who was actually attacked in the streets, I can tell you that personal alarms are efficient, but it depends a lot on the context. It did help me because people opened their windows, turned on lights and looked down to see which of their cars had the alarm set off - causing the attacker to let go of me and run.

If you have a nosy neighbor (the kind that wants to know everything) you might want to casually mention that you keep nothing of value at home, that everything valuable is in bank accounts or in safety deposit boxes. That the only valuable thing is the laptop from work, which is tracked and can easily be found if lost or stolen. (Well, my laptop is not "tracked", but it was worth seeing her face 😄)

79 Times Someone Said Something So Absurd With A Straight Face Nobody Knew How To Respond
79 Times Someone Said Something So Absurd With A Straight Face Nobody Knew How To Respond

I had severe back pain in my early 20s. Doctor barely looked at me and told me "just have some rest and stop whining, you're too young to have anything serious." Shortly after I fainted while waling on the street. Turned out, I had double scoliosis and the vertebrae were pressing on my spinal nerves, resulting in excruciating pain.

People suffering from stress or depression may use earbuds to block or protect themselves from social demands they feel they cannot manage at that time.

41 Moments In Which It Suddenly Occurred That People’s Friends Actually Hated Them
41 Moments In Which It Suddenly Occurred That People’s Friends Actually Hated Them

My then-friend had moved in another country. I was considering the same option at the time, so I asked her about the jobs there. All the positions she suggested were below my current position and level of experience, and yet she mentioned "these are good enough for you". At the same time she applied for a highly paid, managerial position; she didn't get it.

I called a friend once to wish her happy birthday, and to check when we could see each other (I had bought her a present). There was loud music and people laughing and talking loudly in the background. She was having a birthday party. I had not been invited.
