I start packing a month ahead of time. It lets me do it at a comfortable pace and pack everything carefully. I use PODS containers, and my last four moves didn't have a single thing broken or damaged.

My embarrassing packrat confession: I kept the plastic bag the mattress came in so I can rewrap it when I move.

My wife found an easy solution: She has a holiday tree that she redecorates for each season: spring, summer, fall and winter. It sits in our bedroom where we can enjoy it and the dogs won't mess with it.
Looks like the bridge ignored the truck's "wide load" warning sign.
