To all the USA readers.... think very hard on your next Federal vote as to whom you would place this responsibility to.

Teacher here: while we're only hearing about extreme examples, and this teacher was clearly in the wrong: there are legitimate reasons. Kids often abuse it. 3 times in an hour? You're either mucking around or have a medical issue I need to be aware of. 2 mins after lunch? You need to learn to plan better. Right as I'm explaining a new task? I don't want to have to repeat everything when you come back. Or there's already too many kids out of the room. Personally I've never completely denied someone going, I have asked them to wait a few minutes though. And obviously, younger kids or kids with medical issues get far more leniency.
