Let me tell you about Václav Havel, one of the main forces behind the people's uprising against the Soviet occupation and totalitarian regime in former Czechoslovakia. He was very anti-regime and he was eventually arrested by the secret police as a 'subversive element'. After the revolution and a shift towards democracy, he became the 1st democratically elected president of the country. It all happened so fast (the shift from prisoner to president) he couldn't even buy a proper suit, and so he was sworn in while wearing short pants like those in the picture, which became more or less a symbol of his resilience.
