20 years ago I thought "scent free" requests were just too precious for words. I couldn't believe my hand lotion actually made my coworker sick. I stopped using it, but it made me a little mad. I was so very, very wrong. The first time someone else's perfume made me vomit during a migraine I realized exactly how much of a beeatch karma could be (and yes, I deserved it). The couple has every right to ask for a scent free wedding.
You are in no way a coward. Self preservation is very important. I cannot imagine the courage it will take to tell your family especially if you are expecting a negative reaction. It is absolutely okay if you never feel that brave. You know in your heart who you really are and you are living your truth in a way that is comfortable for you. I am always here if you need a shoulder and if you're ever in Canada, you are welcome to live with me.
