However, towards each wall is a mini altar set up with all the fixings for a private mass for up to 10-15 people. There might be around 20 (or even more) in the main level of the basilica and then a few more underground. You have to get or hire your own priest to have private mass and of course get permission and a time slot. I'm catholic so we did this when we visited back in 2018. Someone singing loudly like this would be disrupting at least 5 different private masses who would all be within ear shot.
