He studied Architecture at the Boston Architectural College; the Design and Construction of Sustainable Structures at Yestermorrow; and Landscape Design History at the Arnold Arboretum at Harvard. Hey Kenny, thanks for the comment - you are right, it is not a lounge area. The particular type of meditation practiced at this retreat center requires an erect posture without any back support! There are indoor-outdoor cushions available if visitors need as well. In practice, the bench is unused more than it is used, so looking decorative is an important piece which is why so much effort was spent to make it a focal point even when not being used. We would definitely need to make a different design if we wanted a backyard chill space like you mentioned! Thanks for noticing :)

Pretty awesome

This is beautiful. It took a lot of skill and imagination to create this. I was imagining myself chilling out there on a warm summer night and then I realized........ It's beautiful but it doesn't look comfortable or user friendly.
