At the same time, loneliness has been connected to poor mental and physical health, including a greater risk of cardiovascular illness, anxiety, dementia, depression, and stroke. 40% of the men surveyed in the Equimundo study had met the screening standards for depressive symptoms, while 44% had experienced suicidal ideation within the last two weeks.
Even more alarming, a 2023 study discovered that 40% of all men show depressive symptoms, and 44% have experienced suicidal ideation within the last two weeks.
However, people can't take out their troubles on unsuspecting strangers.
According to a January YouGov survey, 36% of Americans have gone on a date with someone they met online, and eating dinner at a restaurant is the most popular way to spend an evening with a romantic interest.
First-date behaviors that a large majority of people agree to be generally unacceptable include being dismissive of service staff, criticizing the other person's order, frequently looking at the phone, encouraging the other person to get drunk, and arriving late without notice.
Insulting the other person wasn't among the options the respondents noted, so it probably goes without saying that it would be at the top of the list, too.
