Have you ever seen a gingerbread lighthouse? Or maybe a pirate ship? Iron Orchid Designs (IOD), a DIY home decor company, recently hosted their first annual gingerbread house decorating contest and the houses were both jaw-dropping and drool-worthy. Here are the top entries.

I made the house out of homemade gingerbread and covered it with delicious royal icing. I stamped the front and back using the plank stamp and snowflake stamp. I decorated the house with gingerbread snowflakes that I baked in my snowflake mould. I also made decorations with homemade modeling chocolate, homemade fondant and lollipops that I made in the moulds. My favorite part of the design is my candy lake filled with candy pet seahorses. Every house needs pet seahorses. I also made a candy forest next to my house. I had sooo much fun making this and I hope that you enjoy it!!

Gingerbread house made by Tami Trahan of the New Orleans Cookie Company: My gingerbread house is made with homemade gingerbread and iced with a royal icing. It is 100% EDIBLE. I added some airbrushing and some stamping (one of my faves) to give it its whimsical uniqueness. I then embellished my very FUN project with more royal icing, royal icing transfers, molded fondant pieces (another fave of mine😁), and hand painted fondant pieces (yes another fave also 😂) The size of the house is 6” square X 15” tall.

Made by IOD Creative Tribe member Jenny Wyble: This is my non-edible “Gingerbread Ship Loraleigh.” I named this ship after my beautiful friend Leigh, who loved finding vintage treasure and who was a fan of IOD Designs.
I built my friendly pirate ship out of cardboard and paper mache, then covered her in castings made from a variety of IOD moulds, which I painted to resemble white chocolate, peppermint candies, red-hots, glazed springerle cookies, and marshmallow ropes. (My kids REALLY like the fake marshmallow ropes😂)
