People have weird combinations of interest sometimes. What’s even more odd is when both activities are not mere hobbies but legitimate professions.
A qualified geneticist Henrietta Dudek has spent years in the lab, looking at human proteins inside yeast cells and researching molecular events in Alzheimer’s disease. As a visual type, she’s always made her scientific life easier with doodles and illustrations. Naturally, these accurate-yet-artistic drawings attracted the attention of her peers and soon were in high demand. The professors in her lab even asked her to illustrate their scientific papers and textbooks.
"It is far from classical art since these paintings are specialized for biologists, but I think that anyboody can find value in these pieces," she says, "I feel that my self-expression is 100% complete when combining arts with life sciences."
And what about clothes and mugs with biology designs?
"Sometimes I felt hopeless when I tried to find unique presents for my friends-scientists and professors. So I decided to took matters into my own hands and draw my own T-shirts and mugs – cells, genetic codes, DNA, you name it. I dreamed of creating something truly unique that would make them happy. Judging by the look on their faces, I think I succeeded."
