So yesterday during my (F 15) English class, we were talking about a poem that a black woman had said at a public event. It's considered eloquent, even though she used the word "ain't" in it. So, my teacher, let's call her Mrs. K, explained that it was a time period thing. One of my "friends" (I'll call her M) who is RLA (remote learning academy, the rest of us are in person) corrected her by saying "actually it shows lack of education." Me being a bored high schooler was on my phone. We have this huge gc of all of my friends that are in the same English class, which is like 15 people, and includes M. M was saying in the gc stuff about how Mrs. K is really racist, and that white people need to stop taking away the black's language, and that the only reason why they say "ain't" is because they weren't able to get an education. I sent a text saying "but there are some whites who aren't educated" she replied "this is not a what-if situation, sneeze" and so I backed down, not wanting to fight at the moment. They continued talking about how "sis" and "tea" were also a part of AAVE. When I got home, I asked my family about it, and they agreed with me, including my brother who is minoring in linguistics. So I decided to send the gc a text, which I wrote in my notes, as pictured below. M came back saying, "well that's funny coming from you, sneeze, when you're best friend is black. Also what I said was from the experience of many blacks, and this is funny cuz of the sh@t you pulled yesterday." I replied "well thanks for showing me your true colors, and yesterday was an accident," and left the gc. As for what happened yesterday, I was talking with M's best friend, with who I was also friends. The conversation ended up on the gc, and she asked me who all was cishet. When I didn't say M's name, she asked if M was cishet, and I didn't say anything. M had been out to the gc for 6 months or so as bi, but still hasn't told her best friend since kindergarten. I had apologized multiple times to M but she decided to do a low blow at me after I corrected her. Also, most of the group chat is gay in some way or another, including me, so I wasn't doing it to be homophobic or anything. AITA?
