I don't know if this counts but, as a kid, I always dreamed of following a certain hard-to-obtain career path. I didn't have to study for it or anything, but I eventually landed that dream job as an adult. Turned out to be a huge pile of steaming... anyway, the moral of this story is; don't trust your younger self with big decisions.
Also, there is a (whacky, in my opinion, but who am I to judge?) theory that if you wish for something hard enough, then the universe will provide it. For instance, if you really want a new bike or car or something, you just need to imagine owning it, over and over again, like a mantra. And then one day, *poof!* the stars align and the opportunity presents itself.
