I live in a small neighborhood that has quite a few outdoor cats. They walk through our yard, hang out on our porch. A couple have become very friendly and come visit with me for pets than go back to their homes later. A few months ago I came across a new cat I call "Sir Harold". He looked clean and well fed at first. I started to notice he was staying under my porch or house a lot. I'd see him in the middle of the night more than I did. I could also hear him crying outside almost every night for the past month. He came to trust me and would sit next to me, rubbing on my leg, wanting to be pet, and I noticed he was significantly thinner and wasnt looking as healthy as when I first met him. He has a big scrape on his ear, his eyes are red, and the right eye is swollen and looks like it might be infected. I took a picture and taped it to the shared mailbox asking if anyone was missing this cat they could contact me. I also asked some of my neighbors about Sir Harold, and nothing. It's been almost 3 weeks and I think he's living under my house and looks extremely unhealthy and in worried for him. I was telling my boyfriend that I think we should contact the Humane Society to maybe take him. He said he's not sure, and he's worried about possible drama with a neighbor, and we can't be responsible for every cat here. As much as I love and want all cats, we took in 2 stray cats here that were just abandoned, and there are a couple more we think under the abandoned house across the street. I also understand not wanting drama with the neighbors. We're pretty sure he had a owner at one point, but I don't know what else to do. I'm really worried about him. So, should I call the humane society? Or does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?

We had a stray hang about but when the weather got cold I was concerned. I made an outdoor house with a back door. No animal wants to be cornered in a box. Located on the porch tucked close to a corner. We called her Little Bit. By spring time she was less shy and really sweet. My neighbor across the street then adopted her. Turns out this neighbor remembered the cat belonging to a neighbor that died. She had been re homed but would run away back to the old house.

Give him a home. He seems to be looking for one. Take him to the vet if ill. Gove him food and water. Just about all of our cats were feral at one time but now all are fed, healthy, most are neutered and most are housecats. Contact your local SPCA and ask if the Rachael Ray Foundation

If there's an animal rescue organisation in your area I would call them before the Humane Society. Those groups are focused more on rescue than population control. But yes, you should definitely contact someone to help this cat. It sounds like he's suffering and you can help, so why not do it?
