As someone who was raised super religious and a sincere devotee for years there were some revelations about my religion on TV that lead me to denounce my faith. I realized that my religion that proclaims peace and kindness as their purpose was actually harming those who practiced other faith. Also when I started to see my religion as an outsider it became clearer that it was an entrapment to keep me and everyone enslaved to benefit one specific societal group.

I was an unwanted girl child. What did we learn at church? The value of male offspring. That women were to obey.

We lived on a farm as a kid. Us kids planted, weeded, and harvested our own acre garden. Not only was this for our family’s needs but also for the city people that went to our church. When we went to church my father would open the back of out station wagon and put out baskets of all kinds of fresh vegetables. Every week they were all taken. Everyone thanked us. We liked providing what we had for people who did not have.
Anyway, one week we did not pick any vegetables. My father told us we didn’t need to. The next day we did not go to church. Us kids were baffled- no veggies? No church? We finally found out that my father had been told to stop coming. They didn’t think his attitude was Godly! He had not been able to give the first second and third tithes owed the church!! First to run the church, second to feed the poor, third to attend yearly worship services in some far off state (concentrated brainwashing)That was it! I was sure there could be no God if He would allow girls and my father to be treated that way! Solid atheist from that minute on. (But there’s more.) it wasn’t until I was in my fifties that I came to know Jesus - to really know him. From experiences with some truly Godly people I began to understand that the church we went to was really a cult that warped it’s member’s minds. (The conscientious tithing my father did left our already poor family almost poverty stricken.) What I had turned my back on was not God, but some warped ‘evangelist’ praying on poor people. And what makes me angry is that there are still people out there robbing the poor in the name of God.

To be honest, I never had a lot of religious faith in me to begin with. And despite I was borninto a catholic family, neither did my parents. So I just went along with it, because "that's just what you do", until I had a mind to think of my own. At 21 had a wedding in a church solely for the glam and not for the faith and officially left the church soon afterwards. Didn't miss it for a minute since.
