Hey Pandas, What’s Stopping You From Getting A Tattoo If You Don’t Have One Yet? (Closed)

There's nothing in this world I care enough about to carve a picture of into my skin.

My boyfriend keeps saying he wants to get a tattoo the next time I get one, but he's scared of needles. Also, he can't make up his mind like you, so there's that. Here's a tip though. When I think of a tattoo I want, I wait around 6 months, and if I still want it, I'll get it. I would have quite a few regrettable tattoos if I didn't do that. So take your time.

I just never felt it's something I'd like to have. My partner says that he'd like to have one but cannot choose what specifically, similar to you it seems 😅

Because good tattoos are expensive.

Why would i put something in my body that my immunesystem would have to fight on - just to keep it "nice"? Its permanent, it gets uglier over time - i can't find a positive thing to say about it!

I'm phobic about needles. I only just got my ears pierced and I'm sixty!

Hygiene issue. I refuse to pay someone to hurt me in the name of beauty. Also the cautionary tale of my 20 something dad getting a beautiful Italian woman tattoo on his arm. Flash forward to age 70 when said tatoo looked like the Picture of Dorian Grey.

This reality does not have Igors like in Terry Pratchett's Discworld. If it did, I probably would have my name tattooed on various body parts and live a much riskier life.

I refer you to Napoleon's general who got the tattoo "D3ath to Kings" during the revolution and was later elected King of Sweden; and the chap who got a huge back tattoo of Dumbledore after the third film, before finding out later that Dumbledore was gay (NB nothing wrong with that, but not the image he wanted). There's nothing that I want or need to carry around with me permanently, and I can't imagine what it would be like to be stuck with an image that you end up hating. Get a bracelet or brooch that you can change. The only one I'll ever get, if at all, is "DNR" (Do not resuscitate).

They cost money, and in this economy, there's no room for that kind of silliness.

I dither too much on those sort of things. If I did ever get a tattoo, it'd be a of a Pokémon because I've loved the game/shows etc since I was 10 (when they were first released in Australia). However, I'm too fickle and couldn't ever pick something I'd want to live with forever. (I know tattoos aren't *forever* nowadays, but they're still fairly permanent.)

I have always hated tattoos. They look ugly on people and also they make them look poor, un-educated, and stupid. As time goes on they look even worse. Art belongs on the wall, not on your body. That's always been my opinion since I was a little kid and I'm 51 now.

I always wanted one, I know exactly what I want and the placement of it but, I cannot overcome my needlephobia. Oh well.

This is a bit off topic seeing as I have two already, but even 20 years ago they seemed expensive to me. Mine are relatively tiny and near my ankles. I can't imagine what the cost would be now. I've had several ideas over the years, but can't bring myself to spend that anymore. I chose to honor people and memories in less expensive ways than marking my body.

I am in my forties and I think I've seen only 10 tattoos that I really liked. I love to see what people putting on their bodies, I think it's very interesting. But it is nothing for me.
