I grew up in a small mountain village in Bulgaria. The stories told by my grandmothers were not just fiction for me - they were a magical world in which I desperately wanted to go. Their stories featured devils, dark forces, dangerous places, forest spirits, defenders of the good, healers, fire dancers, and many more. I wandered from dawn till dusk around the wild forests, searching for a magical opening that would take me there.
The pictures below are what I saw when I took a peek into this world of raw magic - a banished from the forest queen that took only an apple with her.
