I Work In Travel Business And Our Aim Is To Preserve Slowly Dying Villages — They Are Hidden Gems That Tourists Overlook

It's funny in the beginning how villagers would react when you told them they could do tourism.

"Haha, no way, we're no Kotor," they would say. Every major travel magazine has recognized Kotor as one of THE places to see in the world. And villagers thought people only wanted Kotor, not someplace that may not even have electricity.

In those situations, I would look around and take in the raw beauty around me - the tall mountains towering over the village as the sun is setting, the big plate full of organic food in front of me, and the much-needed serenity sinking in. "No, you're not Kotor."

And several months later, they would welcome their first guests. And then they would call, often crying because the guests have just left. And in those few days, they treated them like family. That's Montenegrin hospitality.

And here are some moments we captured in Northern Montenegro that embody the coziness and essence of Montenegrin culture.
