Little Hero Herbie came to my rescue, Road Dogs & Rescue in Los Angeles after his breeder found out that he had hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain) and did not want to deal with it.
Herbie was just 6 weeks old and arrived in a plastic box, laying on his side - unable to stand, walk, or even lift his head, due to balance issues. But there was something special about him. A glint in his eye! He went to see a neurologist immediately and was put on meds that can reduce the production of fluid. Herbie then started physical therapy at Two Hands Four Paws and has been there for two weeks so far. The goal is to help him gain strength so that he can have a brain shunt when he is 6 months old and hopefully be able to live a good life.
Some people have suggested Herbie be euthanized. But as a rescuer, I believe that every dog should be given a chance. As long as they show they want to live and fight, I'll fight with them. Herbie is such a sweet, feisty little guy. Just a normal, playful puppy dealing with an abnormal health issue. He has been getting a little stronger every day, and deserves all our support!
