One of my twin toddler sons was so angry that I was making the two of them take their bath (last stop before bedtime) that he announced to me in a thunderous rage he was going to, and I quote: “Boom your head off!!”
I remained calm. Not because that’s my personality, but mainly because I was exhausted from chasing them all over the yard that day in 90 degree heat.
“Buddy, if you boom mama’s head off, who’s gonna tell you guys stories, sing bedtime songs, and nurse you to sleep?”
“Hmmmm…”, he mused aloud,”I know! I’ll wait until I’m a big boy and I don’t NEED a mama anymore. But then I’m gonna BOOM YOUR HEAD OFF!!!”
His younger brother by two hours was horrified at this prospect: “Please don’t boom her head off,” he begged, “I don’t want a mama with no head.”
Buddy then replies, “Don’t worry, Moosie. I’ll find another mama head at the grocery store that will be nicer and PRETTIER (shoots me a withering glance) than this old mama head”.
Moosie begins to sob at this point. “But I don’t want a PRETTY mama head! I want the OLD mama head! Waaah!
This happened over 30 years ago, and it still cracks me up every time I think about it.
