“Parma”: A 7-Meter Ice Age Giant With No Equivalent Today
This is not the mammoth most people are used to seeing.
This is Mammuthus trogontherii — often called the steppe mammoth, a rarer and significantly larger ancestor of the better-known mammoths.
And today, this is the most complete skeleton of its kind.
“Parma” — a full-scale reconstruction of a steppe mammoth, created with scientific precision.

This is a fully reconstructed anatomy built from real discoveries.
Every bone is placed exactly where it belongs.

The skeleton was created with scientific accuracy using material collected over many years.
Excavations were carried out from 2010 to 2021 in the Western Ural region.
In the following years, extensive scientific work was completed: identification of findings, comparison with known specimens worldwide, reconstruction of missing elements, restoration, and digital modeling.
The excavation site revealed not only remains of the steppe mammoth, but also other Ice Age animals: woolly rhinoceros, bison, elk, giant deer, fox, and Pleistocene horse.
The initial material consisted of around 200 fragments — ranging from small pieces to elements up to 3.5 meters long.
From this, a complete skeleton was reconstructed with full anatomical accuracy.
The project brought together specialists from multiple fields:
paleontologists
restoration experts
engineers
3D modelers
Each element went through a full process:
cleaning
analysis
comparison
digital reconstruction
Only after that did it become part of the final structure.
Size:
Height — up to 4 meters
Length — 7 meters
Larger than most modern elephants — and immediately striking in scale.
At the same time, this species could reach even greater sizes: known specimens have exceeded 4.7 meters in height.
This is not just a large animal.
It is a massive, heavy-built creature that dominates its space.
Finds like this are almost never complete.
Typically, what exists are:
isolated bones
damaged elements
partial skeletons
Here — it is a complete structure.
That is the difference.
“Parma” has been featured in specialized publications and documentary projects.
But that is not the main point.
The object itself requires no explanation.
You see it — and you understand.
Reconstructions like this cannot simply be repeated.
They depend entirely on unique discoveries.
As of today, finding another specimen comparable in completeness and accuracy is not realistically possible.
That is why objects like this do not remain available for long.
They either become the centerpiece of museum spaces
or move into private collections.
“Parma” is one of the very few fully reconstructed giants of the Ice Age.
And today — it exists again.
