In a poetry class I took in college, the professor was discussing different poetic movements and he asked the class to give some historical events from the 20th century which could have influenced poetry. The first girl he calls on asks, "What exactly do you mean by the '20th century'?" The five seconds of silence following her question...yikes. Did I mention this was an honors class?
