With Fall in the air and Halloween creeping up on us, I thought I'd provide a daily dose of creepy, and share photos from my visit to Riverview Hospital, an old, abandoned mental health facility in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
Riverview Hospital opened in April 1913 and officially closed it’s doors in July 2012 after a steady decline in beds and facilities continued from the 1960′s into the 2000′s.
It has been said that Vancouver's problematic downtown East-Side was a result of the hospital's closure, as many patients were released with no further care, and had no where to go.
Riverview is now used as a popular filming location for television and feature films such as X-Files, Smallville, Happy Gilmore, Watchmen and more. But despite being a hot spot for filming, most of this hospital and its grounds look as if they've been completely forgotten and left to decay.
Although I wasn't able to photograph the interiors of these abandoned buildings, the grounds themselves held an eerie presence that I can't describe.
If you are into exploring creepy and potentially haunted places, I’d definitely recommend visiting Riverview.
