When asked how he started the community, Klsi832 said that there were already two similar subreddits that he liked, “Ten and Twentyyearsago.” After finding out that “Thirty Years Ago” was available, he started running it.

Since its launch on September 4, 2016, the subreddit grew and today it is home to 10.8k subscribers. “I used to be the only one that ever submitted any posts, but now other people do, too,” the moderator said. He added that these days, he posts much more there than he used to.

When asked what the audience of “Thirty Years Ago” is like, the moderator guesses that “it’s mostly older people nostalgic for the past. And maybe some younger people who weren’t around yet but want to learn a little about history.”

According to Klsi832, “the '90s seemed pretty hopeful, pop culture was better in a lot of ways (especially music). There wasn’t internet quite yet so people interacted more.” He added that the era feels nostalgic to him “because the early '90s was probably the best time of my life.”
