For a long time, before even this crisis, I have been thinking about how we could help vulnerable people more. Now, more than ever, I am concerned about those who face homelessness, extreme poverty, lack of any support - those we might tend not to see at times, to isolate them from our minds and souls.
It has become increasingly hard for NGOs to help these people, as their funding has stopped or dropped a lot. But I am a strong believer that no impact is too small so I wanted to find a way to encourage you to support these NGOs, in any way you can.
This is how I came to talk to the Romanian artist Sorina Bogiu, who is an amazing illustrator. I told her about my experiences as a volunteer in a shelter for homeless people, about how grateful I think we should be for what we have and how responsible I think we should be and give back.
She took my thoughts and translated them into a picture worth a million words that I called: ”Don’t isolate kindness”. It’s all there: the dotted house that shows what a different meaning a home can have; the stars on the blouse that show that we are all made of stardust, we all have hopes and dreams and a bit of magic within; the cat that is not only a sign of friendship, but makes you think that animals suffer a lot as well these days. Also, as you may know, even if they don’t have that many resources, people tend to care more after their animals than after themselves.
These are hard times for everyone. All of our habits and what we considered normal have changed. While taking care of yourself and your dear ones, don’t forget to be grateful for everything you have and try to give something back. Find an NGO that helps vulnerable people and show your support.
Remember, no impact is too small as long as we don’t isolate kindness.
