OK - talking about the 'p' word isn't pleasant. Being on the 'p' word is even less pleasant. In fact, new research has revealed that periods are the biggest confidence killer for women this party season, with a third claiming they'd rather miss a party and stay in because of a lack of confidence during their time of the month.
Sanitary protection brand Lil-Lets, who conducted the research, revealed that 76 per cent of women expect their sanitary protection to fail them at some point during their period, turning to ancient granny pants that make them feel unsexy (27 per cent) and unfeminine (13 per cent). Each month, a quarter of women admitted to turning to their trusty six-year-old knickers while for fear of leaking.
Top 10 period confidence-killers this festive season as voted for by 2,000 women: 1. Fear of leaking; 2. Feeling unable to wear clothes I would normally wear; 3. Not feeling attractive; 4. Having to wear old underwear; 5. Pain and cramps; 6. Mood swings; 7. Inconvenience; 8. Feeling less confident in the bedroom; 9. Feeling generally unwell;10. Feeling unable to be as active (sports, swimming etc.)
Off the back of the research, Lil-Lets has joined forces with TV star Cherry Healey and independent lingerie designer Iris London to co-design limited edition pairs of beautiful, daring and confidence-boosting knickers for women to wear both on and off their period.
The knickers have been ethically made and of the highest quality, every piece is crafted by expert seamstresses in rural Derbyshire, UK, from the finest fabrics – georgette silks, Chantilly lace and structured mesh. According to Lil-Lets, the breathable white and hot pink satin and stretch lace knickers "have been designed for comfort and to challenge conceptions of the classic ‘period pant’, encouraging women to move on from their tatty period pants for a pair of knickers they can wear at any time of the month."
If that wasn't great enough - all proceeds will be donated to Refuge, a UK charity that provides specialist support for women and children experiencing domestic violence.
