It's not every day you see the whole year becoming a meme for how disastrous it’s going. Just take a look at people trying to laugh through it all in our previous posts here and here, and check out the "2020 described in one word" challenge right here.

Essentially, at this point, most of us are severely deprived of feel-good emotions. You need no doctor to say that the worldwide chaos has been taking its toll on us. But thankfully, there’s an antidote that’s said to soothe your soul and give you a much-needed fix of wholesomeness.

#1 Be More Like Abdul

Back to work today, forgot my pass so locked bike outside Cannon Street station. Left work at 6 pm to find just the cut lock and no bike, resigned to never seeing my trusty stead again asked the station if they have cameras. A guy appeared waving at me, asked me to put the code into my cut lock. He replied ‘I have your bike’ with a smile I will never forget!! His name is Abdul Muneeb and he works for South Eastern Railways, he was on a break and saw a guy bolt cut the lock and challenged him to give it back, he then took it inside and waited 4 hours after his shift finished to personally make sure I got my bike back. The world needs more Abdul’s, he is a legend of a man and a credit to his employer.

The recent COVID Response Tracking Study conducted in May showed that Americans are the unhappiest they've been in 50 years. 31% of respondents said they were happy in 2018, but this year, only 14% could say the same thing.

Keeping your spirits high in these challenging times may often feel like mission impossible, but however hard it may be, there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. We just need to learn to see it. Experts suggest starting from physical exercise, good sleep, and meditation because a healthy body carries a healthy soul.

Gretchen Rubin, author of the book “The Happiness Project,” believes that connecting with people, even if it’s not face-to-face communication, is also key.

“Ancient philosophers and contemporary scientists agree that connecting with people is truly important. We’re fortunate that we have so much technology we can use to connect with people who aren’t nearby.” She also suggests taking care of your loved ones and those who’re close to you, because empathy breeds feel-good emotions, and together we feel way stronger.

Rubin also says that decluttering the space around you is a way to boost inner happiness. “Decluttering can be difficult now, with more people home and a heavier load on your household, but whatever you can do can help give you a sense of control over your life.”

This sense of control is essential to whoever feels overwhelmed by the chaos which has been happening in the world lately. In the end, all things, good or bad, pass with time. Soon the challenges will become history, and some may even remember all this free time we have on our hands with yearning. So why not use it to the benefit of our well-being, both inner and outer?
